What is PBM Photobiomodulation?

Photobiomodulation (PBM) describes the use of red or near-infrared light to stimulate, heal, regenerate, and protect tissue that has either been injured, is degenerating, or else is at risk of dying. In transcranial PBM (tPBM) application, near-infrared (NIR) light is applied to the head for better penetration to support brain health.

Principle & Main Functions

Cytochrome C oxidase (CCO) in mitochondria acts as a photon receptor. PBM reverses the shift of oxygen in cytochrome C oxidase, increasing cellular respiration and forming ATP. This triggers a cascade of intracellular reactions that produce beneficial effects.

  • 810 nm wavelength penetrates the skull to the brain.
  • Promotes neuroprotection and reduces inflammation.
  • Increases blood flow and cellular energy (ATP).
  • Supports recovery from traumatic events and neurodegenerative conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I use the helmet?
For chronic conditions, 3-6 months is recommended. Use 4-6 times a week, 1-2 times a day. Start with 12 minutes at 25% intensity and gradually increase to 24-30 minutes.
Does the light actually penetrate the brain?
Yes, research confirms that 810nm near-infrared light can penetrate the skull to work on nerve cells and mitochondria.
What is the wavelength used?
Our device uses 810nm near-infrared light, which is optimal for deep tissue and brain penetration.
Why are some LEDs red?
We use 256pcs NIR LEDs for therapy (invisible) and 4 red LEDs as indicators to show that the device is working.
How long is the timer setting?
You can choose from 6, 12, 18, 24, or 30 minutes depending on your treatment needs.
What frequency does the helmet use?
The button model uses a fixed 40Hz frequency, while the touch screen model is adjustable from 1 to 20,000 Hz.
